What can we source for makers?

Calibrated sizes
Tell us the millimetre size, the outline and the quantity, and we answer against what we can source. The tolerance your mounting needs is agreed before anything is cut.

Matched pairs
Matching starts from three facts: hue, size and budget. We search the valley, report both stones separately and send them together. A pair can often be found, though not always.

The same work carried further: three stones or more matched to each other, each reported on its own.

Single stones to a brief
One stone for one piece. Tell us the hue, the size and the budget, and we search from there.
The families to ask about are the ones this site lists: blue, teal, parti, padparadscha, green, pink, yellow, white and star sapphire, with ruby, alexandrite, spinel, garnet, moonstone, tourmaline, zircon and topaz beside them. All of it comes from the same buying, at the mines and gem markets of Ratnapura and Elahera, cut and polished in Sri Lanka. We only buy what we can send to an independent laboratory and stand behind.
Matched sapphire pairs
How do matched pairs and suites work?
Match on millimetre measurements as well as on carat weight. Two stones of the same weight sit differently in a mount if one is cut deeper, and on the bench the sizes matter more than the figures.
Colour has to hold face up under one light, since sapphire is pleochroic and colour banding is common in corundum, so a pair judged in two different lights can separate once they are set side by side. Cut and outline should agree as well, or one stone will return light while the other sits quiet.
Sourcing to a brief
How does a sourcing brief run?
It starts with the brief. Species and colour, the millimetre size or the carat range, the cut and outline, the treatment you accept, whether a particular laboratory is required, the quantity and the date you are working to. The more of that we have, the more useful the answer. What we tell you about a stone is written down, so you can hold us to it.
If we are making the piece as well, drawings come back in five working days, with two options quoted to the gram of metal and no obligation to take either. Setting then takes four to six weeks in our Colombo workshop. The report is issued on the loose stone, before any setting, and the stone is photographed before and after setting, with the report shipped alongside it.
